SYSA Welcomes New Team Members
The SYSA staff is happy to have Rick Mullins and Troy Nealey as new additions to our team! Rick has been named Soccer Director and Troy is the Marketing & Development Director.
Rick Mullins is best described as a humble man that has contagious energy and a passion to help kids through the avenue of sports. “It is a tremendous responsibility and even greater challenge to wake up everyday and work to ensure every child has a great experience through playing soccer,” Rick said. “I look forward to overseeing and developing our soccer program. I am also excited to work with the thousands of volunteers, committees, coaches, and staff who share the same vision.”
Rick is one of the better soccer players to come out of Central Washington. He played collegiately for the Community Colleges of Spokane where he was team captain, 1st Team All Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges and Most-Inspirational player. Rick then transferred to Central Washington University where he was Team Captain (1991-1993), MVP (1992-1993), three time Most-Inspirational player and three time 1st team All-League player. He finished 2nd in career points at the school. Rick also played semi-pro soccer for both the USL Yakima Reds and USL Spokane Shadow, and was inducted into the Community Colleges of Spokane Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
He received his Bachelors of Science in Fitness and Sports Management from Central Washington University and attended Eastern Washington University seeking a Master’s degree in Sports Administration, in which he plans to return and finish in the future.
Rick has obtained his United States Soccer Federation National ‘A’ coaching license, which is an elite status in the world of soccer. He also holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Advanced National Diploma, NSCAA Regional Goalkeeping Diploma, NSCAA Professional Development Certificate, and the NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma. Rick also holds a National Youth License.
Rick has a tremendous love for athletics and dogs. In his free time enjoys fly fishing, supporting Liverpool FC, and spending time with his dog “Anfield.”
Troy Nealey joins SYSA as our Marketing and Development Director. He brings a wealth of experiences from both athletics and business development. Troy has previously been the Executive Director of Sports Leadership, a non-profit organization that focuses on developing leaders both on and off the field of play. He has also been a Development Assistant for Central Washington University Athletics, and recently held the position of Athletic Director for Colfax High School. Troy has also held positions in youth sports programming, coaching, and business development.
“It’s a pleasure to be a part of the SYSA team and help kids to have the opportunity to play sports,” Troy said. “I truly believe in the values that sports can provide, and my goal is to make that available to as many families in Spokane as possible.”
Troy has an athletic resume of his own. Hailing from LaCrosse High School, he was selected to the Washington All-State basketball team (1997) before attending Big Bend Community College to play basketball. While at Big Bend, Troy was Team Captain and earned 1st Team All-NWAACC, Eastern Region MVP, Team MVP, and All-Star Game MVP in the 1998-99 season. Troy then played at Central Washington University and was voted Team Co-Captain and Most-Inspirational for the 2001-02 season.
Troy received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration, both from Central Washington University.
Troy and his wife, Kristen, try to enjoy times at Lake Coeur d’Alene when they are not attending the numerous activities of their two boys, Noah and Sam.
While it was not planned to hire two Central Washington Alumni, these “Wildcats” are a welcome addition to SYSA!
